The first mention of a parish school in the village of Pidhirkhi dates back to 1864. There were 28 children studying at the school.
1874 confirms the existence of a folk school, where 42 children studied.
1885 – a single-class school.
1902 – a two-class school was created, teaching was conducted in German and Ukrainian.
In 1910, there was a two-class school in the village of Pidhirkhi.
In 1925, the village community bought land near the Gostinka River for the construction of a school and a school and cooperative were opened here. They began to build a new school nearby.
1929 – a three-class school was created.
In 1931, a separate building was allocated for the education of children and the construction of a new school (across the road) began.
In 1926–1930, the mayor of Pidhirky was Mykola Kapets. During his administration, a new school was built. There was also a public committee that was engaged in the construction of the school and raised funds for this. Among the members of the committee were: Pavlo Kapets, Mykola Kapets, mayor; Zdislav Sobota, didych; Kypriyan Botsyan and others.
At school, they studied Polish and geography, arithmetic, natural sciences, as well as twice a week the Russian language, that is, the Ukrainian language, and once - history, to know "what kind of people we are, and who was in it."
Since 1944, the school in Pidhirky, Kalush district, has become a seven-year school. The students studied in two shifts. In the first shift, students from grades 1 to 4 studied, in the second - grades 5 to 7.
Among the school’s graduates is the Hero of Ukraine Bohdan Gavryliv, a soldier of the 80th Separate Airborne Assault Brigade, who died on March 4, 2019, during the shelling of the Joint Forces Operation positions with prohibited weapons near the village of Shyrokino, Donetsk region, a month before his 20th birthday. He became (posthumously) the youngest honorary citizen of the city of Kalush. A memorial plaque to the hero is installed on the facade of the school.
The place where the school was built was once (until the 1960s) called “Galyembryk”. The origin of this toponym is unknown. It was an interesting recreation area with a beach and a landscaped adjacent area. It was in this place (now Novatska Street 1), next to the school, that Onufry Franko’s son, Mykhailo, lived – a public activist, organizer, and founder. He furnished half of his apartment for Ivan Franko's family (wife, children and grandchildren), who often visited Pidhirky. The sons of Ivan Yakovlevich Franko lived and worked in our area for a certain period: Taras Ivanovich taught at the Stanislavov gymnasium, Petro Ivanovich - in Kolomyia. This fact had a significant impact on the public, political and sports life of the village of Pidhirky.
