Ivan Kurovets' House

In the house at number 9 (built at the beginning of the 20th century) on S. Bandera Street, the doctor Ivan Kurovets (17.01.1863 - 17.05.1931), who was born into a priest's family, lived for a long time. He received his medical education at the University of Vienna, after which he worked in Kalush for a quarter of a century. He was a general practitioner.

In addition to medical practice, Ivan Kurovets carried out active political, educational and economic activities. He was one of the founders of the construction of the People's House and the Church of St. Archangel Michael, was an honorary member of the church committee, the founder of the People's Bank in Kalush, the publisher of the magazine "Kalusky Listok", twice (1908, 1913) was elected a deputy of the Galician Sejm. In 1918 Ivan Kurovets moved to Lviv, where he restored the destroyed "People's Hospital". He was its head for many years. During the time of the ZUNR, Ivan Kurovets was the State Secretary of Public Health. He is the author of many scientific articles. He donated his library to the Scientific Society named after T. Shevchenko. He was buried in Lviv, at the Lychakiv Cemetery.

The house in which Ivan Kurovets lived was used as a student dormitory during the USSR, and during the years of Ukraine's independence, it housed the offices of several companies and the Kondrat Hotel.
