Concert hall

  • Shevchenko St., 11

The concert hall, located in the historical part of Kalush, was housed in the former building of the Polish gymnastic society "Sokil" (established in 1867). The construction of this building in Kalush was completed in 1906. The decorated facade of the building with two niches houses the busts of the Polish poets Adam Mickiewicz and Juliusz Słowacki. The building was decorated with a majestic figure of a falcon with spread wings, it was placed in the upper central part of the building. "Sokil" in Kalush rallied the Polish community to participate in the future state life back in the days of Austria-Hungary. In 1909, a cinema was opened in Kalush. Among the films shown was probably the legendary film "Marisienka". As a cinema, this building was mentioned under the names "Gloria" in 1941–1944, "Kolos" and the Taras Shevchenko Cinema (1947). In the 60s of the 20th century, the film production department was located here, and from 1977 until the fire - the concert hall of the Kalush Cultural and Educational School (from 1990 - the Kalush School of Culture, and from 14. 07. 2005 - the Kalush College of Culture and Arts). As part of the implementation of the European project "Culture in Reflection - Restoration of the House of Culture in the city of Seini (Romania) and the Concert Hall in the city of Kalush (Ukraine)", a multicultural institution will soon be opened here.
